Inktober – a month-long challenge to create an ink drawing every day throughout the month of October. This is my first ever time Inktober-ing – and this post is my fourth weekly round-up of pics! Absolutely anyone can Inktober. If you’ve not yet done so and fancy giving it a while, why not, eh? I’d love to see your work!

Sunday’s #Inktober sketch is a mildly world weary, yet elegant, personage. I started off attempting to draw my wife’s repro French sculpture (currently festooned in Halloween bat lights). But then I veered off in my own direction!

Floral scrawlings abound today! The first is a very early Monday morning post-breakfast, pre-commute quick picture based on (but not remotely in the same league as) a quite beautiful Hokusai lily picture.

Petal-ulent fictional floral pic, scrawled rapidly on my train into work.

Bird in flight overhead. Inspired by seeing a seagull soar near my home – but said seagull was shorter of beak and whiter of feather. And actually looked like a seagull!

The warm, humid surprise burst of weather we’ve had this October seems to have prompted one final push from the roses in my garden. This is a portrait of one such rose, already starting slowly to turn.

This is not Madonna. I was drawing this from a photo reference (and only afterwards did the Madonna-ness of it strike me – so I imagine Her Royal Madgeness may have seen the same photo that inspired me here). So, a quickie competition with no prize: What is the source of the photo from which I was drawing here?

Second super-quick, post-breakfast, pre-commute picture.

And yes, a third superduper-quick, post-breakfast, pre-commute picture.

What does he know that you don’t? Quickie morning train commute sketch.

Steely of glare. Very early morning picture this one!

With half an eye on the future… Speedy morning train ride sketch.

Quickie train ride home sketch of a lanky and stylish personage I saw out strolling that very day.

In which Vader takes us to the dark side of #Inktober…
Once again based on one of the wonderful Star Wars postcards from my friend Kate Griffiths-Lambeth.

Buddha.

You’re a hot dog, but you’d better not try to hurt her… Frank Furter. My thanks to my friend Sarah Miller for inspiring this one. Sarah suggested that there was a bit of a Tim Curry as Frank N Furter vibe about my picture from Wednesday 25 October. Sadly, this was not the case, meaning that the thrilling competition with no prize is still on. But what Sarah said resulted in today’s picture! Not exactly an amazing likeness of Mr Curry, but I have to say this was by far the most fun of all the #Inktober pictures I’ve drawn so far. I can only hope that tomorrrow’s proves all the more enjoyable!
