Second weekly digest of my latest #Inktober2018 pictures, this time featuring John Lennon, Gene Simmons, Geezer Butler, the tree of life, the essence of autumn, and a gent with rather a natty top hat!
“Drawing is a way of learning to see. A way of reasoning on paper. I’m striving to do it with ease and simplicity. I’ve got a long way to go.”
I was struck this week by the above words on the act of drawing from Duncan Hannah’s excellent book 20th Century Boy: Notebooks of the Seventies. They apply so perfectly to my own experience of drawing over the course of my entire life. “I’ve got a long way to go.” That sums it up perfectly.
There’s still a fair way to go for #Inktober2018, too. Here’s how week two has been looking!

Once a week this #Inktober, my friend Poonam Munshi are exchanging sketch subject topics. Poonam was up first this year, suggesting that we both try our hand at drawing the “tree of life”! Here’s my contribution… now click here to see the fantastic piece that Poonam came up with. Her art is exceptional.

Some thoughtful #Sketchulence to kick off the second Monday of #Inktober!
9 October 2018
Gear! A picture of John Lennon, in honour of the great man’s birthday, which falls on 9 October every single year (since 1940).

Kuriously bedazzled.
To mark World Homeless Day 2018, my friend Sean Jones tweeted a first-thing-in-the-morning/waking-up selfie, and nominated a number of folks (including me) to do the same, and to donate £5 to St Mungo’s Waking Up To Homelessness campaign. I was delighted to donate, but I thought it best to spare the world the full grisly photographic evidence of me first thing in the morning. So instead, here is an #Inktober2018 artist’s impression. If you would like to donate £5 to St Mungo’s excellent campaign, you can do so by texting “WUTH18 £5” to 70070, or by clicking here.
Speedy post-it note sketch of a gent with a really rather natty top hat (and a moustache of which to be proud, too!).

Gene Simmons, for one, was definitely in the mood for #FridayJunior this week!
12 October 2018
A speedy sketch of Black Sabbath bassist Terence “Geezer” Butler. I think that Geezer is perhaps the very best musician I have ever seen live.

The essence of autumn.
