Five years: In which I thank Twitter for an excellent half-decade

“We got five years, what a surprise,” opined Ziggy Stardust (more than five years ago).

So today (Friday 17 January 2014) marks my fifth Twitterversary. In other words, it’s five years to the day since I joined Twitter… and I was quite surprised by this fact!

I would like to extend a huge thank you to Twitter for existing in the first place.

And my sincerest thanks to everyone with whom I’ve interacted via Twitter over this past half-decade, and to all the good friends I’ve made, with whom I’ve first come into contact via Twitter.

I don’t think it would be any exaggeration to say that Twitter has had an absolutely transformative effect on my life over this period. (And I’ve written at length about just what it is that I think is so great about Twitter,  in general, if you’re remotely interested).

“Five years, that’s all we’ve got.” I do hope this prediction of Mr Stardust’s proves incorrect.

Twitter: Here’s to you!

UPDATE: My friend Neil Morrison has written a remarkably generous blog post, in which he declares today to be #mjday: http://change-effect.com/2014/01/17/its-mjday/

I would like to take this opportunity to send a message to Neil: Thank you, sir!

And if you don’t yet have the honour of knowing Neil, please follow him on Twitter (https://twitter.com/neilmorrison) and make sure to check out his amazing Change-Effect blog (http://change-effect.com/)!
