A selection of #Sketchulence from recent weeks, as I gear up for this year’s #Inktober challenge.
Gentle reader: I was a little lax on the drawing front over the summer. With the annual #Inktoberchallenge (share an ink drawing each day throughout October) on the horizon, I think it’s high time to get in training.
(Cue Rocky training montage music).
What do you do when you’re feeling creatively stuck or don’t know where to start?
For me, I find it’s best to clear your mind and start anywhere. Over the past week or two, I’ve let the pen and ink lead me wherever they want. The pictures on this page are the result.
I’m still looking for further inspiration in the build-up to #Inktober. I’d love to know: What is inspiring you right now? If you draw or produce any kind of art, where is your art taking you right now? Leave a comment below to let me know!
Sundae at rest
Let us start off with the real star of our little show – Sundae the guinea pig (pictured in repose, directly after a dinner of lettuce and cucumber). I feel like I can read his thoughts here: “Do you have more lettuce, human? Then I have no use for you.”
Mr Skeleton returns!
It’s been far too long, Mr Skeleton. Welcome back, sir!

Let’s get quizzical
A clear-eyed, quizzical look in this spot of Sunday morning #Sketchulence…
Taylor (if that be her name…)
A speedy spot of #Sketchulence depicting a person with a wonderfully expressive (if, at that moment, rather fed up) face, sighted in Soho during a day out in London with my wife the other week. Was Taylor her real name, or just a nom de Starbucks? The truth may never be known…
Idles hands
And finally, the picture that got me drawing again after an idle month or two. This is my attempt to capture a quite beautiful moment between Idles singer Joe Talbot and his wife and daughter, from their 2019 Glastonbury performance. You can read more about this moment in my recent post entitled So pure.
Now… Roll on#Inktober!
The Skeleton collection
