Vintage velvet, violent storms, wilty sunflowers. A few personal highlights from September 2024, captured in tiny wee snapshots.
This is my latest monthly selection of snapshots of things that caught my eye over these past few weeks, comprising the month of September 2024.
Sunday 1 September 2024: Sun to welcome September
The new month began for me with the lovely sight of some much-needed sunshine burning through the clouds.
Saturday 7 September 2024: Hint
A hint of red sky as this particular Saturday morning thinks about dawning…
Monday 9 September 2024: Of sunflowers and velvet
An MJCarty avec newly acquired vintage velvet jacket a la charity shop.
My one sunflower that made it to flowering stage, already looking like it has seen better days, poor thing.
This just does not seem to have been the year for sunflowers. But undeterred, I shall continue to plant sunflowers next year and beyond.

Friday the 13th in the forest.
Monday 16 September 2024: Somewhat swampulent
A somewhat swampulent appearance to this patch of water in the forest. And some highly impressive moss on the tree by its edge.
Saturday 20 September 2024: You can do anything
Yesterday is gone, finished, done. From this point onward, you can do anything.
Friday 20 September 2024: Wilty sunflower, muddy puddle
This morning we had the most violently heavy hailstorm I have ever seen (accompanied by thunder and lightning, too).
Here is a little taste of the aftermath… A somewhat wilty sunflower and a veg bed that looks like it is under a layer of snow!
The storm over and the sun back in place, a trip to the Ashdown Forest with the lovely Meg. Here, she disproves categorically the assertion from Shaun of the Dead that dogs can’t look up.
Meg loves a muddy puddle, of which the Ashdown Forest had an abundance after that particularly full-on storm.
Thursday 26 September 2024: Snippet of sunshine
In which the sun tries everso hard to share its rays amidst a distinctly stormy day on the Ashdown Forest.
It strikes me that this picture is almost an exact opposite in terms of sun placement to the first image in this month’s round-up. So this seems a suitable moment for me to express my wishes that September has been good to you, and that October will prove to be even better.
May you be nothing but kind today, to others and to yourself.
