MJCarty snapshots February 2026

Awakening frogs and other hints of spring! A few personal highlights from February 2026, captured in tiny wee snapshots.

This is my latest monthly selection of snapshots of things that caught my eye over these past few weeks, comprising the month of February 2026.

Tuesday 3 February 2026: Of Megs and crocuses

Let sleeping Megs lie. We had the privilege of looking after the lovely Meg today. I like the accidental swirling effect that some kind of jolt to my phone must have serendipitously created while I was taking this snap.

Wee crocuses enjoying the unseasonably pleasant sunshine.

Saturday 7 February 2026: Do the most with the least

On this particular Saturday, I shared a blog post entitled Do the most with the least, posing a simple question: What is the most that you can do with the least?

Monday 9 February 2026: By moonlight

Some rather past-their-prime flowers from last summer in my front garden, shown in dramatic relief before a crescent moon (the crescent nature of which was not well captured by my puny phone camera).

Sometimes in life you may find yourself forced to take the path more chilly – such as this particular path on a freezing Ashdown Forest afternoon walk.

Tuesday 17 February 2026: In which the rain briefly forgets itself

The first quite-a-few weeks of 2026 were distinctly damp. So rainy were they that in early February even my local water company at last lifted the hosepipe ban that had been in place since last summer. Therefore, I was surprised on this particular Tuesday morning to see that the rain would seem to have forgotten to turn up and something altogether more sunny was seizing its (more than welcome) moment.

Monday 23 February 2026: Sun pushing through

A sign that spring might be just around the corner – the sun doing its level best to burn through the clouds over the Ashdown Forest. A few moments later it succeeded, and my wife and I were able to see our shadows appear in the bright – if ultimately momentary – sunshine.

Another indicator of imminent spring? Gorse in bloom.

Tuesday 24 February 2026: Frogulent

A tiny wee frog (presumably just recently awoken from hibernation) spotted on my early morning on this particular Tuesday.

Thursday 26 February 2026: Early ladybird

The surprising sight of a very-early-in-the-year ladybird in some lovely and warm (if unseasonal) February sunshine.

What will March 2026 have in store?
