Of stars, spuds and a fair amount of fungus! A few personal highlights from October 2025, captured in tiny wee snapshots.
This is my latest monthly selection of snapshots of things that caught my eye over these past few weeks, comprising the month of October 2025 (but starting with a pic or two from the closing days of September, taken after my previous monthly photographic round-up).
Sunday 28 September 2025: Final strawbs?

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw my strawberry plant somehow still producing fruit so late in the year… although this handful probably represents the end of the 2025 crop. I will let you know if some end-of-year strawb miracle should occur, though, of course.
Tuesday 30 September 2025: Starlit skies and potential planets

The cold, clear sky on my early morning walk meant that the stars and (what I think most likely was) a string of Starlink satellites were wonderfully visible. However, while my phone camera tried its best with the above picture – it only gives a flavour of how bright and clear the stars appeared (and I’m not sure if those potential satellites are even visible at all here).

In the corner of one of the night sky pictures I took that morning was this wee, reddish item low on the horizon, which I am sure I could not see with the naked eye. I posted this picture on social media, asking if it might be Mars. Patrick Hadfield kindly replied via Mastodon that there was a good chance it could have been Venus.
Wednesday 1 October 2025: Shepherd’s warning?

A distinctly red sky to start the new month.

Quite a crop of mushrooms in the local park on this first afternoon of October.

Side angle of those selfsame mushrooms.
Saturday 4 October 2025: All you can do is step back in time

My blog post MJCarty art: The 90s collection presents a small selection of drawings and paintings I did towards the end of the last century.
Sunday 5 October 2025: Cometh the spuds

2025 potato crop harvested! I have been growing potatoes in my garden for approaching two decades now, and I think that this summer’s weather conditions were such that this is my best ever crop. If you might want to know what manner of spuds these be, they are Albert Bartlett Rooster potatoes.
Monday 6 October 2025: Moody Monday magnificence

Spectacular Sussex skies with which to commence a new week.
Tuesday 7 October 2025: Ashdown loveliness

Gorgeous Ashdown Forest view on a surprisingly warm October day.

Some moss-laden Ashdown Forest trees.
Wednesday 8 October 2025: Of moss and mushrooms

Further fungus festooning my local park.
Sunday 12 October 2025: Late rose

Unusual but lovely to see a rose blooming in my garden in October!
Saturday 18 October 2025: MJCarty.com hits 500 posts!

When my blog post Never to stop changing went live in the early hours of this particular Saturday morning, I received an unexpected pop-up from my WordPress app to let me know that it was my 500th published post (which I suppose makes this post you are now surveying number 501)! If you have ever taken the time to read my musings over these past 500 or so posts: thank you!
Monday 20 October 2025: A long time ago…

I received a social media anniversary reminder thing to let me know of the eighth anniversary of my drawing and posting the above picture of a Star Wars Stormtrooper. I had completely forgotten about this picture, but presumably I drew it as part of my 2017 #Inktober run of pictures.
Wednesday 22 October 2025: Tones and rays

Fleeting beauty of some gorgeous, momentary pink tones to the morning sky (apologies for the slightly out-of-focus fuzzy tone to this picture).

And to round out this month’s photographic selection, some rays of lovely autumn sunshine through the trees.
