Pink peonies, teeny spiders and coffee at its iciest! A few of my personal highlights from June 2023, captured in tiny wee snapshots.
This is my latest monthly selection of snapshots of things that caught my eye over these past few weeks, comprising the month of June 2023… This month’s round-up is going live a wee bit earlier in the month than might seem appropriate, simply because my bloggage always goes out on a Saturday, and today (24 June 2023) is the final Saturday in this month.
It seems scarcely credible that this year is almost halfway done… What has been your personal highlight of this first half of 2023?
Thursday 1 June 2023: Large flower, teeny spider!

Large pink flower avec tiny little wee white spider!
Thursday 8 June 2023: Serving Ashdown Forest realness

Beautifully clear views off to the horizon on a somewhat sunny Ashdown Forest afternoon.
I do believe that this was my first visit to the Ashdown Forest this year. It was so lovely to see it looking as beautiful as ever. I have tried to make amends to the Ashdown by returning a good few further times this past month… and I plan to do so whenever possible during the remainder of 2023, too.
Friday 9 June 2023: Enter the iced coffee

Another first for this month – we at last had some decent warmth and summer sunshine. This in turn begat another first…
The best thing about summer-y temperatures at last returning is, of course, the return at long last of iced coffee.
This first home-made iced americano of 2023 was almost indescribably lovely. But, if asked to choose a single word to describe it, I’d go for… lovely!
Cheers!
Saturday 10 June 2023: Enter the iced coffee (Slight return)

Return of the iced coffee era: day the second.
Paying some kind of tribute to the dear departed Lemmy Kilmister with my choice of glass. As Lemmy almost sang:
“Caffeine don’t kill/ And I’m the proof.”*
Cheers!

Turning my camera to another corner of my kitchen, some quite beautiful pink peonies (a heartfelt and thoughtful gift to my wife from her best friend).
Wednesday 14 June 2023: Forest sunlight

I absolutely love the shape described by the trunk of this tree, as it enjoys the feel of forest sunlight breaking through its uppermost leaves.
And breathe…
Tuesday 20 June 2023: A most unexpected deer

Out on my early morning walk on this particular Tuesday, and what should I see but a very beautiful deer out enjoying the #EarlyShift forest air!
Friday 23 June 2023: Sunflower update!

And finally, the latest monthly update on my first ever attempt at sunflower growing (using some seeds kindly gifted to me by lovely friend Liz Kentish, on the occasion of my turning 50). With the arrival of some proper summer sun, the sunflowers seem to be shooting up!

What about you, gentle reader? What has made or is making your month memorable? I would love to know! Post a comment below, or send me a tweet with your snapshots of June 2023.
May you be nothing but kind today, to others and to yourself.
May today be nothing but kind to you and yours.

* These lines are adapted from Motörhead’s superb song Snaggletooth (from their exceptional and truly essential 1984 compilation album No Remorse), in which Lemmy actually sang about something significantly more illegal and dangerous than humble caffeine. Gentle reader: Please do not follow Lemmy’s example in this regard.
